Sentry Nodes Work?
🌐 How do Sentry Nodes Work in Orb3?
The Orb3 network employs an advanced protocol, the Attention challenges v2, involving various actors including the Orb3 chain, a parent chain (Arbitrum One), a trusted Challenger, Orb3 Sentries with their license keys, and a Referee contract. This setup ensures the integrity and efficiency of the Orb3 network's operations.
Key Components and Process:
Challenger's Role: The Challenger, a crucial actor in the protocol, creates a BLS key-pair and registers the public key with the Referee. It also signs assertions made by validators in the Orb3 rollup protocol on Arbitrum One. These signatures are then verified by the Referee and recorded as challenges linked to the assertions.
Orb3 Sentries Registration: Orb3 Sentries can register with the Referee by purchasing a Sentry License Key. This makes them eligible to post claims regarding an assertion.
Assertion and Claim Process:
Sentries obtain the state root of the correct assertion, which will succeed a posted assertion.
If specific conditions are met, Sentries post a claim on the assertion by calling the Referee.
When a successor assertion is created and confirmed, and if the Sentry has posted a correct claim, they contact the Referee to post a redeem transaction.
The Referee then verifies several conditions before issuing a reward to the Sentry.
Ensuring Assertion Integrity:
Each assertion must consume precisely the inbox messages that existed when its predecessor assertion was created.
As soon as an assertion is created, the state root of its correct successor is fully determined and can be calculated by any node.
This setup incentivizes each Sentry to accurately determine the correct next state root.
Reward System:
The reward for a Sentry depends on several factors:
The Sentry's state license ID.
The successor state root.
A challenge value that only becomes known after the successor state root is fully determined.
By employing these mechanisms, the Orb3 network ensures a high level of security and reliability, with Sentries playing a pivotal role in maintaining the network's integrity and efficiency.
